I've heard that eating citrus fruits are good for your health because they contain antioxidants. Antioxidants help your body get rid of the things that potentially cause cancer. For example when you eat a burned piece of meat it contains carcinogens and if you eat too many carcinogens it is possible that you will develop cancer. Antioxidants help break down carcinogens and thus help your body prevent cancer.
As far as citric acid itself, I've never heard anything that would adversely effect health. However, if you eat too much of anything complications can arise.
Keep eating fruit, it's good for you.

Citric acid is the acid in oranges, lemons, grapefruit. Without any citric acid at all in one's diet, s/he will likely suffer from scurvy -- not pleasant. It's much more pleasant to eat an orange or drink OJ.
I take 1,000 mg Vit-C (citric acid) daily, and if I feel a cold coming on, I 'up' this to 2,000 mg morning and night.

I wouldn't ingest it strait. But OJ and citrus fruits have a lot in them.
